Memory #9: Kyubey hunting
(Ep. 1, trivial negative; won in Game #59. Item: a gold pocketwatch with a winder at the top [reusable; 2/3 uses remaining])
*Homura chases Kyubey through the dark corridors of an empty, under-renovation floor of a shopping mall. That dick is a quick, agile runner, dodging much of the barrage of magical blasts Homura hurls after him. Even after a few of her shots connect, the injured Kyubey manages to slip out of her sight.*
*When she finds him again, Madoka has him cradled in her arms. Homura's expression remains cold and neutral, hiding her regret--she's failed to keep them apart, and now Madoka is looking at her with surprise.*
Madoka: Homura-chan . . . ?
Homura: Leave him alone.
Madoka: B-But, he's injured.
*Madoka looks down at the panting, semi-conscious Kyubey, then holds him tighter, trying to shield him from Homura.*
Madoka: N-No way! Don't be mean to him!
*Homura begins to walk closer.*
Homura: This is none of your business.
Madoka: But he asked me for help! I heard him! He wants me to help!
Homura: Really.
*Homura says nothing further, just gazing down at Madoka and Kyubey with that pitiless expression. Madoka, meanwhile, is getting more scared by the moment.*
*The tension is broken when Homura's taken by surprise by a blast of fire extinguisher foam, courtesy of one Miki Sayaka.*
Sayaka: Madoka, this way!
Madoka: Sayaka-chan!
*A relieved Madoka rises to her feet and runs Sayaka's way. Sayaka hurls the fire extinguisher away, and the two run off together. Homura raises a hand, summoning a burst of wind to clear the cloud of extinguisher foam, but the girls--and Kyubey--are already out of sight. Before she can give chase again, however, reality begins to ripple and warp around her . . . a witch has arrived.*
Homura: What timing . . .
*Homura catches up again once the barrier has receded, only to find yet another obstacle between her and her prey: Tomoe Mami, who saved Madoka and Sayaka from the witch. Mami smiles, as she always does, but there's no warmth to it, no friendliness.*
Mami: The witch has already fled. If you want to kill her, please go after her as soon as possible. I'll leave things to you this time.
Homura: I need to deal with someone else.
Mami: You don't seem to understand, huh? I'm saying I'll let you go.
*Homura's brow furrows faintly, betraying her frustration.*
Mami: We'd both rather avoid unnecessary trouble if possible, right?
*Homura stares silently for a moment. Madoka and Sayaka watch on, tense and frightened. Mami just keeps smiling that threatening smile. Eventually, Homura turns and leaves without another word.*

She learned that she definitely fucked up.
This memory gives Homura the information she needs to realize that what she'd started to suspect--that she rewound time more than once--is in fact what happened. There are a few clues regarding that in the memory, but the main, most obvious one is that Madoka clearly isn't a magical girl yet. She doesn't seem to recognize Kyubey, nor does she transform when the witch arrives--she and Sayaka are bailed out by Mami. Another big one is the way Mami seems to treat her like a stranger. Plus, though she doesn't have context for this feeling yet, there's a distinct pang of regret in the moment when she finds Madoka holding Kyubey.
Aather!Homura's trying to resist these lineface!Homura memories; after her conversation with Snow, she's decided she doesn't want to be this person. In spite of this, she's still going to 1) harbor a lot more suspicion towards Kyubey and start to think that maybe he was hiding more than just the Soul Gem/bodypuppet thing and 2) develop a bit of a negative bias against Sayaka, thanks to Sayaka getting in the way. While Mami also got in the way, she remembers Mami as a friend, so this memory won't sour her quite that much.
