Memories #13 & #14
(#13: Ep. 1, trivial neutral; won in Game #70. Item: super sour berry candy)
NO DIALOGUE OF NOTE TO WRITE UP HERE, this is basically a montage of Homura linefacing her way through her first day at Mitakigahara Junior High in the main timeline, remaining completely deadpan as she demonstrates that she's effortlessly good at like everything: breezing through complex math problems, setting a new prefectural record for high jump in gym class, etc.

This is a sort of confusing memory for Homura as she is now. While she's come a long way from where she started in Aather, she's still definitely not deadpan supergirl just yet; remembering herself doing all these things but not caring about them at all is definitely kinda perplexing, even if this isn't her first exposure to "quiet Homura." At the same time, though, she can't help but note (as she did when talking to Sharon) that she did sort of end up taking Madoka's advice about "acting cool." Aaah, but at what price . . .
(#14: Ep. 4, significant neutral; won in Game #71. Item: white gold bracelet engraved with a snake winding around the length [reusable, 1/2 uses remaining])
*The sun is going down. Homura is waiting as Madoka, who has obviously been crying, emerges from the entrance to Tomoe Mami's apartment complex.*
Madoka: Homura . . . chan?
*Madoka hastily wipes at her eyes. Homura walks closer.*
Homura: You're putting too much blame on yourself, Kaname Madoka.
Madoka: Eh?
Homura: No one can blame you for anything. If they did, I wouldn't let them.
*Madoka, clearly surprised by this, says nothing.*
Homura: It seems that you've taken my warning to heart.
Madoka: *Still seeming confused* . . . Yeah.
*The two then leave, walking down a footbridge that runs past a vast, forbidding industrial park.*
Madoka: If I had just listened to you earlier . . .
Homura: It wouldn't have changed Tomoe Mami's fate. But you were able to change your fate. I'm glad I was able to save another person.
Madoka: I-It sounds like you've been doing this for a while, Homura-chan. But you seem different compared to Mami-san.
Homura: I suppose that may be true. I won't deny it.
Madoka: So you've seen quite a few people die like Mami-san did yesterday?
Homura: Yes.
Madoka: How many?
Homura: I've given up counting.
Madoka: Will her apartment just stay like that?
Homura: Tomoe Mami doesn't have any close relatives. It's going to take a very long time for someone to declare her missing.
Madoka: No one will realize she's dead?
Homura: There's nothing to be done for that. If you die on the other side, your body doesn't turn up here. She'll always be considered missing. That's how the life of a magical girl ends.
*At that, Madoka begins to tear up once again. She stops walking; Homura pauses as well when she hears Madoka start to cry.*
Madoka: That's terrible . . . she's been fighting for us all by herself. For no one to even notice--that just . . . makes me feel so sad.
Homura: That's the sort of contract we signed to gain this power. We're not fighting for anyone else. We're fighting for our own wishes. It's normal to not get noticed or remembered.
Madoka: I'll remember her. I'll never forget Mami-san. Never!
Homura: Really? Your words must make Tomoe Mami very happy. It makes me jealous.
Madoka: You too, Homura-chan! I'll never forget about you either! I'll never forget how you saved me yesterday!
*Homura's expression remains impassive, but one of her hands clenches slightly--the only sign of what's going on beneath that mask.*
Madoka: Homura-chan . . . ?
Homura: You're too kind. *And then, a bit harshly:* Don't forget--that kindness can bring you even bigger troubles.
*Madoka looks surprised, and perhaps a bit hurt, at that response. Without another word, Homura turns and walks away.*

Well, she learned that Mami died again . . .
This is mainly yet another worrying glimpse into the mind of her past-and-future self, though, one that in its own way might even rival the magical girl murder memory. This memory is all about what's going on behind Homura's quiet facade as she talks to Madoka: loneliness, emotional exhaustion, feeling like she's millions of miles away from Madoka even though they're standing right next to each other, feeling a bit of genuine happiness at apparently having saved Madoka from becoming a magical girl and yet being unable to show it--or even fully believe in it. Frankly, I almost made this one a signeg, hahaha, but those positive notes (and the fact that it's overall nowhere near as traumatic as Homura's actual signegs) bumped it up to neutral.
Homura is still very much trying to compartmentalize her lineface memories, but this one, combined with #13, will make her able to/prone to going kind of quiet when she gets sufficiently upset.
