Memories #32-34 (I am good at keeping up!!)

DECIDING HOMURA CAUGHT UP ON THESE ON THE MORNING OF 149!

(#32, Rooftop Confrontation: Ep. 2, trivial negative; won in Mother's wardrobe game. Item: thaumatrope with cage on one end and rose on the other [reusable; 4/5 uses remaining])

*Madoka and Sayaka are on the school roof, in the middle of a heavy conversation about betting your life on a wish, when Homura appears, along with a convenient dramatic wind. The two huddle together nervously, Sayaka stepping in front of Madoka.*

Mami: It's all right.

*Mami stands on a nearby tower, addressing the other two telepathically, her gem at the ready. Homura glances her way as she continues to approach.*

Sayaka: Back to finish us off?

Homura: That isn't why I came. I wanted to kill him before he came in contact with Kaname Madoka, but now it's too late. So? What will you do? Do you intend to become a magical girl?

Madoka: I . . .

Sayaka: We don't have anything to say to you!

Homura: Do you remember what I told you yesterday?

Madoka: Yes.

Homura: Good, then. I didn't want my warning to be wasted.

*With that, Homura turns to leave, but . . .*

Madoka: Homura-chan! Um . . . what did you wish for when you became a magical girl?

*That question stops Homura in her tracks. She turns, looking directly at Madoka for a moment--but without saying a word, she turns back away and leaves.*

NOT MUCH AT THIS POINT this is just a moment of 8((( quiet badfeels. ugh ugh so much she could've said but didn't etc.

(#33, Arcade Summit: ep. 6, trivial neutral; won in Green Knight's confessions losergame. Item: Kunzite-pink ribbon [reusable; 4/5 uses remaining])

*Kyouko is at the local arcade, playing a dance game that is definitely not Dance Dance Revolution. Enter Homura.*

Kyouko: Hey! What is it now?

Homura: You can have this city.

Kyouko: And what caused this change of heart?

Homura: Girls like you are the most suited to become magical girls. Miki Sayaka can't handle it.

Kyouko: Heh! Well, that was what I was gonna do from the start. And what about that Sayaka? If I ignore her, she's just gonna come after me again.

Homura: If possible, I'd like to settle that peacefully. Stay out of it. I'll deal with her.

Kyouko: Haven't heard the main point yet. Who are you, really?

*Homura's reply: silent lineface.*

Kyouko: What are you after?

Homura: In one week's time, the Walpurgis Night will arrive.

Kyouko: How do you know?

Homura: That's a secret. In any case, if you win then, I'll leave this city. I don't care what you do after that.

Kyouko: Haaaaah. The Walpurgis Night, huh. I guess it will be tough alone. Maybe I can win with a helping hand.

*Kyouko finishes her game and turns, grinning ear to ear and brandishing a box of a snack that's definitely not Pockey.*

Kyouko: Want some?

This memory isn't much, feels-wise, except for a little pang of dread at what it's leadup too: a confrontation with the Walpurgis. So far, that hasn't gone well in any timeline. But in this one, at least, there's still hope (for now, anyway)--if Kyouko's there to help out, maybe they can get something done . . .

(#34, GJ Homerun!: Ep. 11, trivial negative; won in Three's regrets game. Item: a gold coin [reusable; 7/8 uses remaining])

*The place: Homura's apartment. That dick Kyubey is there, and he won't shut up.*

Kyubey: Time traveler Akemi Homura. You repeated this one month countless times in multiple worlds, changing the possibilities of the past and looking for the conclusion you wanted. Your existence answered one question: why Kaname Madoka had such immense potential as a magical girl. Now I can form a satisfactory hypothesis.

Homura: . . . >:I

Kyubey: One's potential as a magical girl depends on the misfortune she's destined to carry. It was incomprehensible to me why Madoka, who had an ordinary life--rather than one of a queen of a country, or a savior--had such an amount of misfortune concentrated around her. But, Homura . . . could it be that she became such a powerful magical girl thanks to your repeating time over and over?

Homura: . . . !

Kyubey: I thought so. You were the reason. Or rather, the repeated use of your magic was.

Homura: What do you mean?

Kyubey: You rolled back time for one reason: to save Kaname Madoka. While you relived the same timeframe with the same purpose again and again, you wound together numerous parallel universes--all centered around the existence of Kaname Madoka. As a result, the fate lines of all those worlds that were never supposed to interact are now focused on Madoka. If we accept that, we see the origin of her immense magical power. All the fate lines from the timelines you lived through are now wound tightly around Kaname Madoka . . . thus creating our current situation.

*Homura remains silent, but her grip on her skirt betrays her emotions.*

Kyubey: You've done great, Homura. You've raised Madoka to become the most powerful witch ever.

-Fucking Kyubey >8||| +infinity

EVERYTHING IS HER FAULT

EVER

I'm starting to think maybe this should be signeg--I have this problem with a lot Homura's negative memories, in fact. But it doesn't seem to ding her as hard as, like, all the Madoka deaths, soooo here we are. At any rate, this is mainly going to make Homura all the more determined to prevent Madoka from ever taking a skill in Aather ever.
