Memory #6: The battle against the witch Patricia
(Ep. 10, significant positive; won in Game #53. Item: compact mirror [reusable; 5/7 uses remaining])
*A bizarre place, even by witch barrier standards: an endless clear blue sky with no ground beneath it, filled with crisscrossing laundry lines that stretch from horizon to horizon, strung between utility poles that disappear into the distance below. All the lines bear freshly-laundered school uniforms, and the witch is clad in a uniform herself. Patricia is a strange, spidery creature--many pairs of arms sprouting from a torso with no head, crawling across the laundry lines as though they were a web. She unleashes a downpour of classroom furniture--desks, chairs, and the like--followed by a wave of her familiars, pairs of legs wearing school skirts over bike shorts, feet clad in ice skates, their sharp blades threatening to slice at any caught in the storm.*
*Madoka and Mami run with impeccable balance across the lines, while the less sure-footed Homura clings to one for dear life. As the barrage of familiars begins, Madoka pulls out her bow and fires off a spray of magical arrows, deflecting the familiars before they can do any harm.*
Madoka: Mami-san, now!
Mami: Okay!
*Mami's ribbon extends to impossible lengths and then splits off into many directions, snaring numerous laundry lines and using them to help it weave itself into a bridge across the void towards Patricia.*
Mami: Akemi-san, your turn!
Homura: Yes!
*Homura drops from her line onto the bridge. The gears on her buckler begin to spin, and with a click, everything goes gray and still--time freezes. Homura runs along the bridge, stumbling down and again but never faltering. As she gets closer, she reaches behind her buckler and pulls out a cylindrical device--a pipe bomb. She hits the switch on the detonator and leaps from the end of the bridge, hurling the bomb into Patricia's skirt. She then releases her hold on the flow of time, and there's a mighty blast above her as she falls, in which Patricia is consumed. Mami's ribbon weaves itself into a basket of sorts to catch Homura in.*
Homura: . . . I did it? I did it!
*The barrier begins to fade, leaving the trio safe on the ground, and it's at this point that a very enthusiastic Madoka throws her arms around Homura.*
Madoka: You did it!
Mami: Congratulations.
Madoka: Amazing! You're amazing, Homura-chan!

Homura learned several things about her personal fighting style from this one! She knows she can stop time. She knows she can apparently hold items in some sort of space behind her buckler. And she knows she fought with bombs. Wow, as if guns weren't enough! She also knows a little more about Madoka and Mami's powers, i.e. Madoka's bow and Mami's do-anything ribbon.
But that's the trivial stuff. What's really important about this memory is the fact that she took center stage in fighting a witch and did not fuck it up--even better, she kicked ass! This is going to go a long way to restoring her confidence after the hit to it she took in the Dream/Three game. It'll also reinforce in her mind the importance of magical girls working together. She, Madoka, and Mami were acting as a unit, and in so doing they took down a tricky opponent with no injuries. This is clearly the way to go! Surely everyone will be able to understand this!
